Mart Homecoming

This Friday I stopped in Mart to partake in the Homecoming festivities. It was amazing how busy Mart was that day. There were people out on the streets and a steady stream of cars driving down Texas Avenue. I have never seen Mart so abuzz with energy. Everyone was decked out in purple and gold, including the little kiddos wearing Mart football jerseys and cheerleader outfits. It was a beautiful fall day; the sun was shining, the cool breeze was blowing, and the sounds of children laughing and Mart residents chanting their school songs were in the air. The town spirit was undeniable which got me thinking, what ways can we use this town spirit to enhance the work we are doing in Mart? How can we harness this energy and enthusiasm? I obviously do not have an answer to those questions, but it is certainly something to think about...

I think having Alexis experience this success in marketing her jewelry is going to be motivating for the rest of the cooperative folks. It's good to take note of what worked and what didn't in terms of Alexis' experience versus the pie sale, which wasn't so successful.
