First Trip to Mart

Last Monday was our first class trip to Mart. It was an interesting and exciting experience and I cannot wait to get started on my project! We were able to take a tour of the town and see some of the main buildings and businesses. Our first stop was the Mart Community Co-op which had its grand opening this weekend. The co-op is in a huge building which is currently being fixed up by many of the local residents. It is going to be an awesome space once it is finished. This is where I am going to be doing a lot of work with the residents to further develop the co-op and work with them to market their art. So awesome!

We also were able to visit the Mart library and speak with members of the library board and Mart community about the creation of a community garden next to the library. This sounds like it is going to be a really great project and I am excited to see how it will progress.

I addition to developing the art co-op and planning the community garden, there are several other projects that our class will be working on this semester: a google mapping project, a young girl's empowerment group, and a restoration project of the historic Masonic Lodge in Mart. Lots of really neat stuff! I will try to take some pictures next time I am in Mart to post on here. I cannot wait to watch how each of these projects progress throughout the semester!
